I sometimes feel like I am an anachronism
A throwback to more gentile times
No, not the Victorian era
Just those times where it was just polite to be polite
To say “please” and “thank you”
Even to strangers
To sit and eat with one hand in your lap
No elbows on the table
To acknowledge the presence of elders
When ma’am and sir (especially ma’am) weren’t deemed offensive or rude
When men wore hats outside
When Sunday dinner was the rule
Everyone had time to listen
Maybe it was all a childhood view
No longer embraced as an adult
The times changed
Why did I?
